The Underline’s Brickell Backyard Is Under Construction

I drove by  The Underline’s Brickell Backyard, the first phase of  9 phases, and am excited to see that construction has started.   This ambitious project will  convert 10 miles and 120 acres of unused space under the existing MetroRail into a vibrant linear park.  In the process, it will transform the real estate along the 10 mile corridor as well.

Waterfront eating along the Hudson River Park, NYC

Last weekend I flew to New York City for a quick weekend getaway and during my run along the Hudson River Park, I wondered why we don’t have more fabulous waterfront parks in Miami.  We are finally getting Bayfront Park cleaned up, but wouldn’t it be amazing to have waterfront access for runners, walkers, and bikers that weaves from Bayfront to the Miami River and then connected to the soon-to-be-built Underline and the path to Key Biscayne?

Proposed Hammock Trail
Proposed Hammock Trail

A couple of days ago a wrote about what South Florida will look like in 2070 if we continue developing the way we are.  The state of Florida is growing by 1,000 people per day, making traffic unbearable and threatening our quality of life.  Luckily, there are many projects going on in South Florida that will improve our community and increase property values around them.  Three of them include:

  1. The Miami Underline
  2. The Ludlam Trail
  3. Brightline

School’s Out For Summer! Now What?

Most schools in Miami Dade County have been out for over a week.  Now that cleaning out book bags, desks and drawers of last year’s school stuff is done and sleeping in and laying around the pool is becoming old hat, what is there to do in the hot, humid Miami summer?  Lots!

Aside from the obvious of visiting beaches and Matheson Hammock, there are lots of activities offered for children of all ages.  Since it is still early in the summer, I am focusing on outdoor activities first.

Pinecrest Gardens has a Splash and Play, Petting Zoo and fish feeding pond.

Miami Dade Parks Eco-Adventures offers kayaking, canoeing, bike riding, and snorkeling at a many different parks.  They also offer a wide variety of summer camps throughout the summer.

Amelia Earhart Park has a wakeboarding/waterskiing facility as well as a the Bill Graham Farm Village with livestock and all sorts of activities revolving around farm life.

If you have a favorite outdoor summer activity, please share it in the comments section.

Indoor summer activities will be featured in a later post.
