In case you are planning to party the entire New Year’s weekend, you may want to consider taking in The Coconut Grove Art Stroll on January 2, 2010 from 7-11 p.m. It promises to be fun but not too high key if you are still recovering from the 31st.

The Pinecrest Farmer’s Market at Pinecrest Gardens has been open every Sunday since December and I finally got by this weekend. It is open every Sunday from 9-2 p.m. through April, and I plan on being a regular. In addition to the fresh fruit and vegetables that are grown locally, there are food vendors with everything from conch to tropical ice cream, herb and vegetable plants for the home gardener, spices, and green products to clean your home or make it more energy efficient. My favorite part was the burst of color all around me. I know where I will be shopping for my produce for the next several months.

Winter in Miami = Butterflies?
I planted a butterfly garden in August and it has been a huge success. We have watched caterpillars munch on the milkweed then cocoon and finally morph into beautiful Monarchs. Didn’t quite expect to see so much activity in December, but it is in the high 80’s today!
If someone you know is a wannabe race car driver, a great holiday gift is to give them a one or two day racing school experience. Offered at the Palm Beach International Raceway or Homestead Miami Speedway, these courses are sure to get the adrenaline going! If the course wets your appetite, consider joining the Palm Beach Driving Club to keep your race car/course fan entertained all year.

I know Art Basel isn’t quite over, but if you want to see local art, join in the Coconut Grove Art Stroll tomorrow night from 7-11 pm.
The Farmers Market, formerly held at Gardners Market on 124 Street, is coming to Pinecrest Gardens starting Sunday, December 6. It will run every Sunday through April from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
