Liberty Caffe In Coral Gables – Last Week’s Where’s J Wo Answer

The entrance to the Liberty Caffe, located in the historic Country Club of Coral Gables, is last week’s Where’s J Wo answer.

The Country Club, recently restored by the Liberty Group out of Toronto, was originally the Merrick family’s vegetable garden.   Designed by Hampton and Reimert, it  was the first public building in Coral Gables.   When it opened on January 15, 1923,  it rapidly became an important part of the social scene as well as  in promoting Coral Gables as a place to buy real estate.  It was often used by George Merrick to entertain prospective buyers for his single family homes.

Don’t miss Liberty Caffe’s  half off gelato Tuesdays!

Bike Ride Over A Chinese Bridge – Where’s JWo Answer

Chinese Bridge At Deering Estate
Chinese Bridge At Deering Estate

Look closely at the bridge.  Recognize any of it from the “Where’s JWo” picture posted last Sunday?

Part of the Deering Estate, the Chinese Bridge was constructed in 1918 by Charles Deering to cross Cutler Creek.  He chose the Chinese theme to remind him of his travels through Asia when he was a Navy Officer.

This is a great pathway to walk, bike or jog as the main portion of it is closed to traffic.  If you start on 152 Avenue, ride all the way down through native rock Pinelands and end at the People’s Dock for a great a peak at the nature that abounds in South Florida.
